Vaccinations for Canines
Rabies
This vaccine protects your pet against a fatal viral infection of the central nervous system that can affect all mammals, including humans. The virus is transmitted through the bite of an infected animal. This is a mandated vaccination in Massachusetts and it is required for town licensure.
Distemper
This vaccine protects your pet against a widespread contagious, incurable, often fatal, multisystemic viral disease that affects the respiratory, gastrointestinal, and central nervous systems. Symptoms include conjunctivitis, diarrhea, fever, pneumonia, runny nose, vomiting, ataxia, depression, paralysis, progressive deterioration of mental abilities, progressive deterioration of motor skills, and seizures that can affect any part of the body. The virus is spread through bodily secretions and excretions, especially respiratory secretions.
Adenovirus 1
This vaccine protects your pet from a disease that causes canine hepatitis. Symptoms include fever, lethargy, tonsillitis, abdominal distension and pain, loss of appetite and a pale color. Often there is vomiting. Some dogs will develop the classic hepatitis blue eyes. the virus is spread through contact with infected urine or feces.
Adenovirus 2
This vaccine protects your pet from a disease that is related to the hepatitis virus and is one of the causes of infectious tracheobronchitis. The most common symptoms are a dry, hacking cough followed by retching, and coughing up a white foamy discharge. Some dogs also develop conjunctivitis ("pink eye"), rhinitis (inflamed nasal mucous membrane), and a nasal discharge.
Parainfluenza
This vaccine protects your pet against a widespread and often fatal disease which can cause vomiting, diarrhea, pneumonia and neurological problems.
Parvovirus
This vaccine protects your pet against a highly contagious and potentially fatal disease which may cause severe vomiting and bloody diarrhea. It is especially dangerous in young dogs, but all unvaccinated dogs are at risk of contracting this severe disease.

Leptosporosis
This vaccine protects your pet against a bacterial infection that may lead to permanent kidney and liver damage. It is contagious to humans and dogs and is spread through contact with infected urine or contaminated soil or water.
Coronavirus
This vaccine protects your pet against a highly contagious virus that affects the intestinal tract. this virus causes a gastroenteritis. Most common signs include: depression, fever, loss of appetite, vomiting, and diarrhea. The diarrhea can be watery, yellowish-orange in color, bloody, mucoid, and usually has an offensive odor and in extreme cases sudden death has occurred. This virus is usually found in puppies and it is spread through contact with infected feces.Bordetella (Kennel Cough)
This vaccine protects your pet against a highly contagious, cold-like respiratory infection.
Lyme
This vaccine protects your pet against causes problems in many parts of the dog’s body, including the heart, kidneys, and joints. On rare occasions, it can lead to neurological disorders. Lyme disease most commonly is associated with symptoms such as a high fever, swollen lymph nodes, lameness, and a loss of appetite.

Calicivirus
This vaccine protects your pet against an upper respiratory infection with signs similar to viral rhinotracheitis.
Panleukopenia This vaccine protects your pet against a widespread and potentially fatal disease which may cause a sudden onset of severe vomiting and diarrhea.
